Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Krakow’s Old Town, and honestly, most apartments in this area either cost a fortune or feel like you’re sleeping in someone’s dusty attic. AMBER APARTMENT 519 is actually different – it’s tucked away on Szlak Street, which I mean, if you know Krakow at all, you know that’s pretty much the sweet spot. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the main square, but far enough from the late-night party crowd that you can actually sleep.

The building itself has that classic Krakow character – you know, the kind where you walk through this unassuming entrance (look for A2, seriously, don’t miss it or you’ll be wandering around like I did the first time) and then suddenly you’re in this surprisingly well-maintained space. The apartment feels more put-together than a lot of the 4-star places I’ve tried around here. What really got me was the attention to practical stuff – like, there’s actually decent water pressure, the heating works properly (crucial if you’re visiting between October and April), and the kitchen has everything you’d actually need, not just a random assortment of mismatched plates. The 8.2 rating makes sense once you settle in; it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just… works.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location gives you that authentic Old Town experience without the tourist trap feeling. You can walk to Wawel Castle in about ten minutes, hit up the cloth hall whenever you want, but you’re also close to where actual Krakow residents hang out. There’s this great little bakery around the corner that opens early (perfect for beating the crowds at the castle), and honestly, being on Szlak means you can easily explore both the Jewish Quarter and the main tourist sites without feeling like you need to plan your whole day around transportation. The street can get a bit busy during the day – I mean, it’s Old Town – but it settles down nicely in the evenings. Just don’t expect total silence if you’re a super light sleeper, because well, you’re in the heart of one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight, and after staying here a few times, I actually prefer it to some of the pricier hotels that feel more like generic international chains. If you want to feel like you’re actually staying *in* Krakow rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.
