You know what surprised me about Apartament Śliwka? The name literally means “plum apartment,” and honestly, I was expecting something kitschy – maybe purple walls or fruit-themed everything. But when I walked into this place on Śliwkowa street, it was actually just a really well-thought-out apartment that happens to sit in one of Krakow’s quieter residential neighborhoods.

The location is sort of perfect if you’re the type who wants to experience Krakow like you actually live there, rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble around the Old Town. I mean, you’re still only about a 15-minute tram ride from the main square, but you get to wake up on a street where locals are walking their dogs and grabbing coffee from the little bakery two blocks over. There’s something refreshing about that – plus, the parking situation is infinitely better here than anywhere near Wawel Castle (trust me on this one). The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home that they’ve thoughtfully prepared for guests. The kitchen isn’t just for show – they’ve got proper pots and pans, decent knives, even a coffee grinder. I ended up cooking a few meals because, well, eating out every night gets expensive, and there’s a Biedronka supermarket just a short walk away where you can grab everything you need.

What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night. You’re in a city of nearly 800,000 people, but once evening settles in, this neighborhood just… exhales. No drunk tourists stumbling past your windows at 2 AM like you’d get closer to Kazimierz. The bed was actually comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the shower had proper water pressure – honestly, these details matter more than fancy lobby marble when you’re trying to get ready for a day of walking around cobblestone streets. The 9.2 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but everything works the way it should, the WiFi is solid (important if you’re working remotely), and the whole place just feels… reliable? Clean? Like the kind of place where you can relax without constantly worrying about whether you’re going to find some unpleasant surprise. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond the typical tourist spots – maybe head out to Nowa Huta or take day trips to the Tatra Mountains – having a comfortable base that doesn’t cost a fortune really makes the whole trip better. It’s the kind of place I’d actually recommend to friends, which I guess is exactly what I’m doing right now.
