Hotel Description
You know what really surprised me about Apartamenty Podwale? Walking up to this place on Podwale street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the outside – it’s just this unassuming building tucked right into Old Town’s medieval walls. But once you’re inside, it hits you that you’re staying in something pretty special. The apartments have this perfect balance of keeping the historical charm (we’re talking original stone details and those impossibly thick walls that make you feel like you’re living in a castle) while actually being, well, livable for modern humans. I mean, the WiFi works, the shower has decent pressure, and there’s a proper kitchen if you want to grab some pierogi from the market and heat them up. The location is honestly ridiculous – and I mean that in the best way. You’re literally a two-minute stumble to the Main Market Square, which sounds touristy until you realize you can duck out for morning coffee at one of the locals’ spots before the crowds hit.
What I really loved about staying here is how quiet it gets at night, despite being right in the thick of everything. Those medieval walls aren’t just for show – they actually block out most of the street noise, though you’ll still catch the occasional horse-drawn carriage clip-clopping by (yes, that’s actually a thing here, and no, it doesn’t get old). The staff seems to really know their stuff about Krakow too. When I was trying to figure out the best time to visit Wawel Castle without dealing with tour groups, the woman at reception gave me this insider tip about going right when they open on weekday mornings – saved me probably two hours of standing in line. Parking is… well, it’s Old Town, so forget about parking right outside, but there’s a decent garage about a five-minute walk away on Sławkowska street that won’t completely destroy your budget.
Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart though – it feels like you’re actually living in Krakow for a few days, not just visiting. Maybe it’s because you’ve got proper apartment space to spread out, or because you’re staying where actual locals pass by on their way to work, but there’s something authentically Krakowian about the whole experience. The building itself has been around since medieval times (you can sort of feel the history in those walls), and honestly, the 9 out of 10 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. Sure, the stairs can be a bit steep if you’re hauling heavy luggage, and the old windows mean you might need an extra blanket in winter, but these feel like character quirks rather than real problems. If you’re the type who wants to be in the heart of things but still have a peaceful place to retreat to – with enough space to actually unpack and settle in – this is pretty much exactly what you’re looking for.

The perfect apartment for a group during their stay in Krakow. – Ben from United Kingdom – December 10, 2024 (9/10)
Łukasz was the perfect host. Everything was as expected and he collected us upon arrival at the airport for an easy transfer to the apartment.
Entering the apartment, he came with us to show us everything – which keys were for which, where everything was etc. and invited us to contact him on WhatsApp if we needed anything else during our stay.
As soon as we did, he responded and sorted out what was a very minor issue.
The apartment was in a superb location, taking us 3-4 minutes to walk into Krakow's main square and meant we avoided having to pay for any additional transport.
I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone.
