I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Crown Piast & Spa, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a five-star property in this part of town. But you know what? This place actually delivers on that luxury promise, though it does it in a refreshingly understated way that feels more authentic than flashy.

The spa is where this hotel really shines, and I mean genuinely shines – not just because they throw around fancy product names. The thermal pools have this perfect temperature gradient that you discover as you move around (the staff mentioned they’re fed by natural springs, which explains the slightly mineral scent that’s actually quite pleasant). I spent way too much time in there during my stay, especially in the evenings when it’s quieter and you can hear the water circulation system humming softly in the background. The treatment rooms are spacious enough that you don’t feel like you’re in a converted closet, which honestly has been an issue at some other “luxury” places I’ve stayed.

What surprised me most was how well they handle the practical stuff – check-in was smooth even when I arrived during what seemed like their busy period, and the parking situation is actually sorted out properly with covered spots that don’t require you to play automotive Tetris. The rooms themselves feel substantial, with these heavy curtains that block out street noise completely (I’m a light sleeper, so this matters). The beds are firm but not rock-hard, and they’ve got that perfect pillow situation where you get options without having to call housekeeping. My room faced what I think was a courtyard area, so it stayed quiet even on weekend nights. The minibar pricing isn’t completely insane either, which is becoming rare these days.

The restaurant does solid work with both local dishes and international options – their breakfast spread runs later than most places, which saved me more than once when I overslept after those long spa sessions. Service throughout the hotel has that professional-but-not-stiff quality that makes you feel like they actually want you there. I did notice they seem to get busy with local guests using the spa facilities during weekends, so if you prefer having the pools mostly to yourself, weekday stays work better. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to revolutionize your understanding of hospitality, but it nails the fundamentals while adding some genuinely luxurious touches that don’t feel forced or gimmicky. For a five-star property, it manages to avoid that sometimes sterile perfection that can make you afraid to actually relax and enjoy yourself.
