Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Calliope Apartments on Szpitalna Street, I wasn’t expecting much. The building looks pretty unassuming from the outside, you know? But man, was I wrong. This place is actually tucked into one of those perfect Old Town spots where you’re literally steps from everything that matters, but somehow the street stays relatively quiet at night (well, quiet for Krakow standards anyway). You can walk to the Main Square in maybe three minutes – I timed it because I’m weird like that – and there’s this little bakery right around the corner on Floriańska that does incredible obwarzanki in the morning. The smell of fresh bread basically becomes your alarm clock, which honestly isn’t the worst way to wake up.

What really got me about Calliope was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between apartment-style independence and actual hotel service. The rooms feel like someone’s stylish city flat – I mean, there’s proper kitchen equipment, not those sad little coffee makers you usually get – but housekeeping still shows up, and there’s always someone at reception who actually knows the neighborhood. I stayed in one of the upper floor units, and the windows open right onto the medieval rooftops… it’s pretty magical, especially when those church bells start going off in the evening. Fair warning though: if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. The bells are charming, but they’re also, well, bells. The apartments themselves are bigger than you’d expect for Old Town – I could actually unpack properly instead of living out of my suitcase like usual. Plus the WiFi is solid, which matters if you’re trying to upload all those mandatory castle photos to Instagram.

Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart – the staff genuinely seems to care about Krakow itself, not just getting you checked in and out. The reception folks gave me these detailed recommendations that you could tell came from actually living here, not some corporate handbook. They told me which pierogi place the locals actually go to (not the touristy one everyone finds first), and when to hit Wawel Castle to avoid the worst crowds. I even got tips about the Saturday morning flower market in the small square behind St. Mary’s – stuff you’d never find in a guidebook. The whole experience felt less like staying at a hotel and more like crashing at a friend’s place, if your friend happened to live in a gorgeous 14th-century neighborhood and was really good at hospitality. That 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there – it’s one of those places that just gets the details right without making a big show about it.

Reviews

  • With much to see in Krakow, apartment is centrally located; and just blends in with the local polish culture and ambien – Greg from Australia – August 13, 2025 (9/10)

Location, size and Old Town atmosphere

What could be improved: Nothing really

  • Fantastic – Adrian from United Kingdom – August 5, 2025 (10/10)

The apartment was in a fantastic location, it was very spacious comfortable and clean. It was literally a two minute walk from the main square.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Excellent location for exploring Krakow, getting to the main train station and restuarants. – Kevin from United Kingdom – July 27, 2025 (9/10)

Being able to checkin and leave at the times that suited us. The host was very prompt in messaging and answering questions.

What could be improved: We never found the breakfast buffet place shown in the photos but breakfast at "Wine and Coffee" was good. The photos showed a washing machine but that obviously wasn't appropriate to our apartment. The photos also showed a bottle of wine and bowl of fruit but I guess that was just for the publicity.

  • Perfect! – Laura from Australia – July 17, 2025 (10/10)

Great location. Spacious, lovely old traditional building & furniture/environment, solid timber floors, good kitchen & tea/coffee provided, very good host kept in contact

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • A great city break in a nice apt. Comfy bed and nice kitchen – David from United Kingdom – July 14, 2025 (10/10)

Good location, very clean. Met by the owner on arrival who helped out with questions regarding places to visit.

What could be improved: Nothing to say that was to dislike.

  • Great work Miłosz.. – Jack from Australia – June 23, 2025 (9/10)

Great location, good size apartment and very clean. We would gladly come again.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Wonderful – Filip from Poland – June 12, 2025 (9/10)

    – Location – good commute to the central railway station, the main square (one can hear Hejnał trumpet every hour)
    – Food – great collaboration with Coffee & Wine restaurant for breakfasts (though it would've been better if they started serving earlier, e.g. 7 am)

What could be improved: – Blinds could've been more dark, as early mornings were too bright causing kids to wake up earlier than usually
    – Better ventilation/cooling system. In the property, there were two fans, but it wasn't enough to cool down the temperature and ventilate the room.

  • Wonderful – Elizabeth from New Zealand – May 28, 2025 (9/10)

Spacious apartment with beautiful furnishings. Host very pleasant and attentive. Excellent location close to main square with plenty of restaurants and food shops nearby and not too far from the central train station/large shopping mall on foot.

What could be improved: The old town where the apartment is situated is noisy throughout the day and night so had to keep windows closed overnight.

  • A Home Away from Home – Stephen from United States – May 24, 2025 (10/10)

Like a second home. Well maintained classic European architecture; spacious; great natural light; practical amenities provided; very comfortable. The location is ideal for those who want to explore Krakow on foot. The owner/host was gracious and quickly responded to any questions we had. Overall, a very positive experience. Highly recommended.

What could be improved: Nothing, really.

  • The ideal place to stay. – Laurence from United Kingdom – May 23, 2025 (10/10)

A very large space. Tall ceilings. Well equipped. Clean and very comfortable. The noise level was exactly right. The location could not be improved.

What could be improved: There is nothing to dislike.
