You know what struck me first about Cu Residence? It’s one of those places where someone clearly thought about what travelers actually want, not just what looks good in photos. I mean, the name “LoftAffair Collection” had me expecting something a bit pretentious, but honestly – it’s just a really well-done boutique spot that happens to nail the loft aesthetic without trying too hard.

The whole vibe is sort of industrial-chic meets actually livable space. You walk in and there’s this immediate sense that you’re staying somewhere with character, not just another cookie-cutter hotel room. The ceilings are high (which, coming from someone who’s stayed in way too many cramped European hotel rooms, is such a relief), and they’ve got these exposed elements that feel authentic rather than forced. What I really appreciated was the attention to lighting – there are actually enough outlets where you need them, and the bedside lighting is warm enough that you’re not squinting at your book or feeling like you’re in an operating room.

The three-star rating might make you think it’s basic, but that 9.1 guest score tells the real story. It’s one of those places where they’ve focused on getting the fundamentals absolutely right rather than throwing money at flashy extras you’ll never use. The shower pressure is excellent (and trust me, I’m picky about this), the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the space, and the beds are comfortable without being so soft you sink into oblivion. I noticed they’ve thought through the small stuff too – decent hangers in the closet, enough counter space in the bathroom, blackout options that actually block light. Check-in was smooth, no unnecessary upselling or twenty-minute speeches about amenities I can figure out myself.

What really sets this place apart is how it feels more like staying in a friend’s really nice apartment than a hotel. There’s something about the layout and design choices that makes you want to actually hang out in the space rather than just crash there between activities. The common areas (if you can call them that in a loft-style setup) have this relaxed energy where you might actually strike up a conversation with other guests. I ended up chatting with a couple from Denmark about local restaurant recommendations – that kind of organic interaction just doesn’t happen at bigger, more sterile properties.

Look, it’s not going to have a concierge who can get you impossible reservations or a spa where you can disappear for a day. But if you want a place that feels special without the attitude, where you can spread out a bit and feel like you’re experiencing something authentic rather than just occupying a room – this is exactly that kind of spot. The location works well for exploring on foot, and you’re not dealing with tour groups clogging up elevators or fighting for space at breakfast. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that just do their thing really well without making a big show of it.
