Funky Flat Krakow Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first looked up Starowiślna 86 – the address is sort of tucked away and I figured it might be one of those cramped Old Town places where you can hear your neighbor’s conversations through paper-thin walls. But Funky Flat Krakow actually surprised me in the best way possible. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about what travelers actually need, not just what looks good in photos. The space feels deliberately designed but not sterile – you know what I mean? Like, the furniture has character and the layout actually makes sense for living, not just Instagram shots.

What really got me was the location intelligence. I mean, everyone talks about being “in Old Town,” but Starowiślna is this perfect sweet spot where you’re genuinely walking distance to everything that matters without being right in the middle of the tourist chaos. You can actually sleep here – the street doesn’t turn into a drunk backpacker highway at 2 AM like some of the squares closer to the main market. Plus, and this is something you only figure out after a few days, you’re literally a five-minute walk to that little courtyard area behind St. Mary’s where locals actually hang out, and maybe three blocks from those incredible milk bars that most tourists never find because they’re not on the main drag. The building itself has that solid, pre-war feel – thick walls that keep things quiet, high ceilings that don’t make you feel claustrophobic.

But here’s the thing that really sets it apart: the attention to stuff that actually matters when you’re living somewhere for more than just a night. The kitchen isn’t just for show – it has proper knives and a coffee situation that doesn’t make you want to cry. The bathroom has decent water pressure (trust me, not a given in these old buildings), and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it for a week. I stayed here during that weird shoulder season in October when it’s beautiful during the day but gets properly cold at night, and the heating worked perfectly without turning the place into a sauna. Also – and this might sound minor but it’s not – the WiFi actually reaches every corner of the space, which is honestly rare in these thick-walled old buildings. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that awkward key-exchange-at-a-random-café situation you sometimes get with apartment rentals. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself thinking “I could actually live here for a month” instead of just counting down the days until checkout.

  • Wonderful – Amanda from United Kingdom – February 23, 2025 (9/10)

We loved the decor and space, plus the location was perfect and we really liked exploring Kazimierz. The rooms were huge and beds so comfy!

What could be improved: Trams were quite noisy but expected and would have appreciated some info on Krakow, local map etc. We couldn't access tv, but did use amazon Prime. We bought cloths and toilet roll as not supplied.

  • Perfect stay! – Nathan from Belgium – January 5, 2025 (10/10)

The apartment is incredibly spacious and exceptionally comfortable, with a grand and inviting atmosphere. It features beautiful floors, high ceilings, and plenty of natural light, creating a bright and welcoming vibe. The cozy sofas make it an ideal spot for relaxing, unwinding, and enjoying the city.

The location is unbeatable—close to the heart of Krakow’s historic center, close to Kazimierz, and within easy reach of a vibrant area across the river, filled with fantastic restaurants and bars. Additionally, the apartment is conveniently located near the train line that connects the airport to the Salt Mine, making travel hassle-free.

Communication with the landlord was smooth and seamless, adding to the overall positive experience. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Krakow!

  • Gourgues place – Gerda from Lithuania – July 5, 2024 (10/10)

Apartment was gorges, really spacious and had everything that you could need for your stay! I really loved the small balcony for morning coffee in the kitchen and all the details just make you feel right at home.

We stayed there with two kids, and they also loved all the spaces and books to take a look at.

Location is also perfect, some really nice restaurants and coffee spots, right on the street perfect bakery, river walk side is right there, tram stop.

Only minor notice, is that apartment is next to quite busy street, soo in those rooms, that go out to main street, at night noise some times can disturb a bit, but for that you can also find airplugs. Either way our kids loved to watch trams through the windows, soo it was more like an attraction ☺️☺️

    All the best!

  • It was very cool, comfortable. – Oksana from Ukraine – June 30, 2024 (10/10)

We loved the apartment, it was as stylish as at the pictures, everything was so well designed and comfortable. The special appreaciation goes to the balcony with the nice tea table where we had our morning coffee. Also, we had cookies and musli left by the host for my daugher which she loved a lot! The design and estetics of the apartment is very enjoable. We made even a few pictures to implement the similar ideas in our apartment in Kyiv. Everything was great: cleanless, comfort of beds and linen. Also, we walked by foot to the Jewish quarter which we like due to its vibe and style a few time a day to see around.

What could be improved: nothing to complain. we wish our nice hosts (Seb and his wife Agneshka) a lot of good guests and visitors.

  • Would recommend and come again . – Linda from United Kingdom – July 1, 2025 (7/10)

The flat was fabulous.. spacious, modern, clean with a lovely balcony .

What could be improved: The noise of the traffic ! Although earplugs were supplied.
