Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from Gertrudy 10 Residence when I first booked it – the name sounds a bit formal, and three stars usually means you’re rolling the dice. But you know what? This place completely surprised me, and I actually ended up extending my stay by two nights.

The first thing that hits you is just how ridiculously close you are to everything that matters. I mean, when they say one-minute walk to Old Town, they’re not exaggerating – I timed it. Sixty-three seconds from the front door to where the cobblestones start, and suddenly you’re surrounded by all those medieval buildings and tourist crowds. But here’s the thing that really sold me on the location: you get all the benefits of being right in the heart of things without the noise that usually comes with it. The residence sits on this quiet side street that somehow manages to stay peaceful even during peak season. I could hear church bells in the morning (which I actually loved), but no drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM.

The building itself has character – you can tell it’s been thoughtfully converted rather than just slapped together. My room was on the second floor, and while the stairs are a bit steep (fair warning if you’re hauling heavy luggage), the hallways have this nice old-world feel without being stuffy about it. The rooms are what I’d call “smartly simple” – nothing fancy, but everything you need is there and actually works properly. The shower had decent water pressure, the Wi-Fi didn’t cut out every five minutes, and there were enough outlets for all my devices. Small victories, but they matter when you’re traveling. The staff really knows their stuff too – the guy at reception gave me these incredibly detailed directions to a local bakery that tourists never find, and he was spot-on about which tram to take to avoid the morning rush.

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels more like a well-run guesthouse than a generic hotel. There’s this little courtyard area where you can sit with coffee in the morning, and I ended up chatting with other guests who’d clearly done their homework on where to stay. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be luxury, but it nails all the basics while giving you that authentic neighborhood vibe. I’d definitely book here again, especially if I wanted to explore Old Town on foot but still get a decent night’s sleep.

  The location is perfect as I found many halal restaurants near this hotel. Host is very cooperative and she allowed my late check-in. Bed was comfortable as well. I recommend this hotel to everyone.

  Instructions to get into the room were easy to understand. The Host also emailed whilst we were there to ask if everything was okay with the room, which it was. It was very clean, quiet, the bed was very comfortable. They had an iron and ironing board in the room, as well as plug adapters! Would definitely stay again
