You know what struck me first about Heron Apartment? It’s tucked away on Rakowicka Street in this perfectly quiet residential pocket, but you’re literally a 10-minute walk from the madness of the Main Square. I mean, you get the best of both worlds here – you can stumble back from a late dinner at Pod Aniołami without dealing with trams, but when you wake up in the morning, it’s actually peaceful.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s stylish Polish grandmother decided to get really good at interior design. Everything’s thoughtfully put together without being fussy – there’s this beautiful mix of modern touches and traditional elements that actually works. The kitchen’s properly equipped too, which honestly surprised me because so many places just give you a hot plate and call it a day. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because there’s something really nice about having coffee and fresh bread from the little bakery down the street (Piekarnia Sowa – locals line up there every morning, so you know it’s legit). The WiFi’s solid, the heating works well even in January – these details matter when you’re staying more than a couple nights.

What really won me over was how the owners seem to understand what travelers actually need. The check-in process was smooth, parking’s available if you’re brave enough to drive in Kraków (though honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re there), and they’ve got all those little touches like proper hangers, decent lighting for getting ready, and – this might sound silly – but really good shower pressure. The building’s from the early 1900s, so you get those high ceilings and thick walls that keep things quiet, but everything’s been updated properly. You’re close enough to the Planty gardens that you can take evening walks around the old city walls, and if you head the other direction toward Rakowicka Cemetery, there’s this whole different side of Kraków that most tourists miss – little cafes, art galleries, normal neighborhood life happening. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not flashy or trying to impress anyone, but it gets everything right in that effortless way that only happens when someone really cares about the details.

  The shower drain was clogged, there was quite a lot of female hair on the floor in the bathroom and I had to go buy toiletries – there was no shower gel or shampoo and the accommodation had only ONE medium-sized towel. No more towels (for hands, for face or to put it on the bathroom floor), nothing…
  The room could only be darkened with thin blinds, so it was not effective at all. The bed was also disappointing – it was not a bed, but a couch.
