Hotel Description

Honestly, when I first walked up to Home far from Home on plac Bohaterów Getta, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the address sounds pretty heavy, right? But here’s the thing about staying in Podgórze that most tourists don’t realize: you’re actually in one of Krakow’s most authentic neighborhoods, just a quick tram ride or pleasant walk across the Vistula from all the Old Town chaos.

The hotel itself feels like someone’s stylish apartment that they decided to share with travelers, which I mean, might literally be the case. You know what impressed me most? The staff actually knew the neighborhood – not just the obvious tourist spots, but they told me about this little pierogi place around the corner that locals go to, and honestly, it was better than anything I had in the main square. The rooms are what you’d call thoughtfully put together rather than fancy – good beds (I’m picky about mattresses), decent shower pressure, and those little touches that show someone was actually thinking about what travelers need. Like proper outlets near the bed and blackout curtains that actually block light.

What really sold me on this place was the location, though it took me a day to appreciate it. You’re walking distance from Schindler’s Factory if you’re into that history, but more importantly, you’re living like a local. I’d grab coffee from the café down the street in the morning – way cheaper than Old Town prices – then wander over to the Bernatek Bridge for probably the best views of Krakow Castle you’ll get anywhere. Evenings were perfect because you could explore the trendy bars that have been popping up in Podgórze (seriously, this area is having a moment), then come back to a quiet street where you can actually sleep. The trams run regularly into the city center, but honestly, the 15-minute walk through Kazimierz became my favorite part of each day. You’ll pass the old Jewish quarter, cross the river, and suddenly you’re in medieval fantasy land – but you get to retreat to real life at night instead of staying in some overpriced tourist bubble. The whole experience just feels more… I don’t know, genuine? Like you’re visiting Krakow rather than performing tourism, if that makes sense.

Krakow’s apartments offer spacious accommodations with historical character, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this beautifully preserved Polish city.

Reviews

  • Wonderful – Guoda from Lithuania – July 21, 2025 (9/10)

    Everything was fine.

What could be improved: We lacked some ammenities, like toilet paper etc. Wish there was more supplies. Otherwise it was fine

  • Wonderful deco, spaceous and beautiful kitchen but no A/C provided in the flat. – Sebastian from Slovakia – July 11, 2025 (8/10)

The location was excellent. The apartment was spacious and comfortable.

What could be improved: Upon arrival we realized there is not toilet paper snd handsoap, so it was priceless to go in the middle of the night to the shop to get them. Another surprise was that it is advertised with A/C but there is none! Just two little fans serving as A/C?!

  • Exceptional – Grzegorz from United Kingdom – June 30, 2025 (10/10)

Location is perfect for exploring great food and historical landmarks all over the city.

  • Perfect place to stay – Jennie from United Kingdom – December 9, 2024 (9/10)

Perfect location , very clean , comfortable and modern.

What could be improved: The only thing would be the smell from drain when chain flushed , my air freshener provided .

  • Excellent location, right in the middle of city life. Comfy and well designed – Carl from United Kingdom – May 12, 2024 (9/10)

Located in the Jewish Ghetto, only a 20 minute walk into the centre. Steeped in history.

What could be improved: Having to park on the street for a relatively small cost.

  • Exceptional – Neil from United Kingdom – March 25, 2024 (10/10)

Very, very clean, it was in a great location.

  • Lovely stay – Matthew from United Kingdom – March 6, 2024 (9/10)

Everything was great. I thought the layout of everything was awesome, heated tile floor outside the bathroom, chilled peaceful area, super comfortable mattress etc.

What could be improved: Everything was great but if I was to nitpick I'd say it would be nice to have a full length mirror somewhere, just to see how the attire looks before going out. The only useable mirror is the bathroom one, which is fairly small. The mirror in the lounge isn't usable unless you're over 6ft tall

  • Perfect flat for friends and family – Shos10 from United Kingdom – February 28, 2024 (10/10)

this is a beautiful flat. the decoration is quirky in places but the space embraces you. All the beds are super comfortable and the lounge area coped with 5 adults easily.Well equipped and spotlessly clean.
Tram is across the square and train just a short walk away. (good for getting to Salt Mine)Small supermarket close by and bakery with divine croissants for breakfast

  • Excellent stay, first time in Krakow, if coming back – will choose the same host:) – Damian from Ireland – October 10, 2023 (10/10)

Excellent location, easy access to the apartment, cleanliness 100% and accuracy of what was in the description.

  • I recommend – Ilona from Poland – September 9, 2023 (10/10)

Everything was clean and we were comfortable. Everything was as advertised. The windows look directly onto the Heroes of the Ghetto Square. Very comfortable beds and pillows.

What could be improved: From the street on the street side (in the room with the kitchen) there are many spiders that constantly climb into the windows. I don't know if the owners of the apartment can somehow solve it, but it brings some inconvenience, because it is difficult to keep the window open.
