You know what? Hotel Batory surprised me in the best possible way. I’ll be honest – when I first walked up, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place, but sometimes those preconceptions just mess with your head. The moment I stepped into the lobby, there was this immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place. Not in a stuffy, over-the-top way, but more like… well, like staying at a friend’s house if your friend happened to have really good taste and knew how to make guests feel welcome.

The staff here genuinely seems to enjoy their jobs, which is rarer than you’d think. Check-in was smooth – no weird upselling attempts or that fake smile you get at chain hotels. My room was on the third floor, and I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything worked properly and it was spotlessly clean. The bed was actually comfortable (you never know with smaller hotels), and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which honestly makes or breaks a stay for me. What really got me was the attention to small details – fresh flowers in the hallway, decent coffee in the lobby that didn’t taste like it had been sitting there since morning, little touches that show they’re paying attention.

The location turned out to be pretty ideal, even though it’s not right in the thick of tourist central. You’re close enough to walk to the main attractions without dealing with all the noise and chaos that comes with being directly on top of everything. I could actually sleep at night, which was a relief after my last hotel experience where garbage trucks seemed to have a party outside my window at 5 AM. There’s a great little café about two blocks away that the front desk recommended – locals actually eat there, always a good sign. Parking was straightforward too, which saved me the usual headache of circling around looking for a spot.

Look, Hotel Batory isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works. The 8.6 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there – it’s the kind of place that does the basics really well and throws in just enough extra touches to make you feel like you made a smart choice. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. It’s got that sweet spot of being comfortable, well-run, and reasonably priced without any of the pretension or corner-cutting you sometimes get at this level.
