Hotel Jan Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Jan on Grodzka Street, you immediately feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special. This three-star gem sits right in the heart of Kraków’s Old Town, and I mean literally — you’re surrounded by centuries-old architecture and cobblestone streets that lead straight to the main square. The building itself has that classic Polish charm, but what really struck me was how quiet it felt despite being on one of the city’s most historic thoroughfares. The elegant facade showcases traditional Polish architectural elements that have been carefully preserved over the decades.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about staying on Grodzka Street — you’re basically living inside a postcard. The Royal Route runs right past your door, which means you can walk to Wawel Castle in about five minutes and reach the Main Market Square in roughly the same time. I watched couples stroll past my window every morning, and honestly, I get why this place scores a 9.9 with romantic travelers. You know what’s even better? The tourist crowds thin out in the evenings, so you get this magical Old Town experience without feeling like you’re fighting for sidewalk space.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but thoughtfully designed — exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star property. The windows opened onto the street, and while that might sound noisy, the thick walls kept most of the sound out. What I appreciated was the attention to detail: good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and a bathroom that actually had decent water pressure. It’s comfortable and clean, which is really all you need when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city anyway. Each room features modern amenities while maintaining the historic character of this charming establishment.
Morning Fuel
The buffet breakfast surprised me — in a good way. Sure, it’s not elaborate, but they nail the basics with fresh bread, local cheeses, and proper coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around all morning. I actually found myself lingering over breakfast, partly because the dining area has these great windows where you can watch Kraków wake up. There’s something pretty satisfying about planning your day while watching locals head to work and early tourists start their castle visits. The breakfast selection includes traditional Polish specialties alongside international favorites.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hotel Jan isn’t trying to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, well-located place that gets the fundamentals right. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and that 9.0 rating reflects exactly that kind of consistent, no-nonsense hospitality. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying right in the medieval heart of the city, being able to wander out for late dinners and morning coffee without dealing with trams or taxis. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re actually staying in Kraków, not just visiting it. The combination of authentic atmosphere and modern comfort creates an unforgettable experience.

Perfect location, was a little concerned about noise being so close to the main square and having a room facing out to the street but there was no need to worry and got a great nights sleep
