Hotel Jan Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Jan, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots end up surprising you the most. The lobby’s got this understated charm that feels more like stepping into someone’s well-kept home than a typical hotel, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day (which, let’s face it, doesn’t happen everywhere).
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed the basics without trying to be something they’re not. The rooms are genuinely comfortable – not fancy, but the kind of comfortable where you actually sleep well and don’t spend ten minutes figuring out how to work the shower. I mean, the bathroom’s compact but functional, and honestly, the water pressure is better than what I’ve got at home. The beds hit that sweet spot where they’re firm enough that you don’t sink into oblivion but soft enough that you’re not counting springs all night. And here’s something small but telling – the WiFi actually works in every corner of the room, including that weird dead zone most hotels have near the window.
The breakfast situation is refreshingly straightforward too. Nothing Instagram-worthy, but proper coffee (they use local beans, which the morning desk clerk mentioned casually), fresh pastries that taste like they’re from an actual bakery down the street, and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying several days. I noticed they switch up the fruit selection based on what’s in season, which is one of those details that shows someone’s actually paying attention. The dining area gets decent morning light, and it’s quiet enough that you can ease into your day without feeling rushed.
What sealed the deal for me was the little things – like how they keep the common areas at just the right temperature (not that arctic blast you get in some places), and the evening front desk person who gave me genuinely useful local recommendations instead of just pointing to the tourist map. The building itself has some character too; you can tell it’s been around for a while, but in a good way – solid walls, decent soundproofing, and those satisfying old-school key cards that actually work on the first try.
With a 9.0 rating, it’s clear other people are picking up on what makes this place work. It’s not trying to revolutionize hospitality or wow you with flashy amenities – it’s just doing the fundamentals really well. The kind of place where you check out thinking “yeah, I’d definitely stay here again” rather than “well, that was… fine.” For the price point, you’re getting way more value than you’d expect, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Location of the Hotel is perfect, being in the centre of the 'old 'town and just metres from the main square. Excellent breakfast. Suited me perfectly. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful, both throughout the booking process and during the stay.

Perfect location, was a little concerned about noise being so close to the main square and having a room facing out to the street but there was no need to worry and got a great nights sleep
