Hotel Description
You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first saw the name “Malila Premium Apartments” – it sounds like one of those generic Eastern European places that tries too hard, right? But walking up to Grodzka 50, I actually got excited. This street is absolutely perfect if you want to be in the thick of Krakow’s Old Town without dealing with the absolute chaos of the main square.
Grodzka Street itself is this beautiful cobblestone stretch that connects the Main Market Square to Wawel Castle – I mean, you literally can’t get more central than this. What’s brilliant about being at number 50 is that you’re far enough from the main tourist crush that you can actually sleep at night (trust me, those apartments right on the Rynek are a nightmare in summer), but you’re still maybe a three-minute walk from everything that matters. The building has this lovely restored facade that fits right in with the medieval architecture, and honestly, the apartments inside are way more spacious and well-appointed than I expected. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s not trying to be some luxury palace, but everything works perfectly and the kitchenettes are actually functional, not just for show.
What really won me over was how the place feels like a proper apartment rather than a hotel room with a mini-fridge shoved in the corner. The windows are proper double-glazed (which matters more than you’d think on these old streets), and whoever designed the interiors actually understands that people need places to put their stuff. I stayed there during the shoulder season in October, and while the heating worked great, I imagine these places are absolutely perfect in summer when you want to grab fresh bread from the little bakery around the corner and make coffee in your own space. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no standing around a fancy lobby, just practical key exchange and someone who actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give decent restaurant recommendations. If you’re the type who likes having your own space but wants to be walking distance from St. Mary’s Basilica, the Cloth Hall, and all those tiny wine bars tucked into medieval cellars, this is honestly one of the better setups I’ve found in Krakow. Plus, and this matters if you’re planning to explore beyond the city center, you’re really close to the train station – like genuinely walkable, not “walkable with two suitcases and a death wish” like some places claim.
