Modern House in Old Town Numero 5 Overview
You know what? I’ve walked down Karmelicka Street dozens of times, and I always wondered about that beautifully restored building at number 64. Turns out Modern House in Old Town Numero 5 is exactly what you’d hope for when you picture staying in Kraków’s historic center – it’s got that perfect balance of old-world charm and actually functioning modern stuff. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about the details here. The original architectural elements are still there – those gorgeous high ceilings and period moldings – but everything else has been updated with a light touch that doesn’t feel like they’re trying too hard to impress you.
What I love about this location is that you’re genuinely in Old Town, not on some tourist trap street where everything costs double. Karmelicka runs parallel to the main royal route, which means you can walk to the Main Square in about eight minutes (I’ve timed it), but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups right outside your window. The neighborhood actually has character – there’s a fantastic little bakery two blocks down that locals queue up at every morning, and honestly, the coffee there beats anything you’ll find on Floriańska Street. The building itself sits in this quiet pocket where you’ll hear church bells from St. Anne’s in the distance, but not the late-night party crowd that can make some Old Town stays a bit… well, loud.
Inside, the rooms feel spacious in that way that’s rare for European city centers – I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without rearranging all the furniture. The beds are proper comfortable (not those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you aching), and the bathrooms have excellent water pressure, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but somehow always is when you’re traveling. What really got me was the attention to local touches – there are prints from Kraków artists on the walls, not generic hotel art, and the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to point you toward places that aren’t in every guidebook. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal hotel lobby theater. The 9.1 rating makes complete sense when you experience it – it’s that sweet spot where everything works smoothly without feeling sterile or corporate. If you’re looking to stay somewhere that feels connected to the real Kraków while still having all the modern comforts, this place gets it right.
Hotels near me in Krakow offer convenient access to the medieval center, where guests can easily walk to St. Mary’s Basilica, Cloth Hall, and traditional Polish restaurants.

Exceptional – Stanimira from Bulgaria – July 16, 2025 (10/10)
Excellent apartment! Great location, very close to the city centre. There a lot of shops and nice cafeteria around. Very clean and cosy place. The host was very kind to accept our luggage before check-in time. The only thing that we thought might be a problem was the tram line just below, BUT we still managed to get some good sleep, the apartment is sound-proof.
Wonderful – Nan from China – July 12, 2025 (9/10)
Great location and nice apartment. Ideal for three people.
What could be improved: Maybe stocking one more toilet paper in the bathroom would be better.Enjoy your journey – Stefania from Italy – May 5, 2025 (9/10)
Tidy flat, excellent self check in, comfortable rooms.
It’s ok for a short stay. – Kowalewski from United States – April 22, 2025 (8/10)

A perfectly located, spotlessly clean, comfortable apartment. The check in and out was seamless and our host was very quick to communicate any information we required. We are already thinking about when to return later in the year. Would definitely recommend.

Everything we needed. Made light breakfast but ate out the rest of the time. location was great, only ten minutes walk to main square
What could be improved: TV would have been nice but not really necessary as there is so much to see out in KrakowExceptional – Adrian from United Kingdom – November 23, 2024 (10/10)
the apartment was very clean and warm with all the facilities we required and a supermarket next door and some good restaurants just up the road
What could be improved: the main square was a bit of a way but trams run right passed the apartmentWonderful – Erez from Israel – October 18, 2024 (9/10)
A great place to stay in Krakow. The manager was very kind and responsive. The appartment was very clean and organized. The location was very good – 2 minutes from the tram station, 15 minutes walk from the beautiful Rynek square.
Provisions can be purchased in several Zabka stores, or from the bakery in the corner.
The free parking was very convenient.
What could be improved: The only (small) downside is the occasional noise from the street below (mainly the trams), but it wasn't such a big deal for us.Exceptional – Lorena from Germany – September 15, 2024 (10/10)
The location was great, a few minutes from the city sightseeing. The accommodation was well equipped. Check in and check out were uncomplicated. We would stay there again.
