Pollera Overview

You know what’s funny about Pollera? I walked past it three times before realizing this unassuming building on Szpitalna was actually my hotel. There’s something refreshingly low-key about the entrance – no flashy signage or doormen in fancy uniforms, just a clean, understated facade that blends right into Old Town’s historic streetscape. Once you’re inside though, it hits you that this place gets the details right in ways that matter more than marble lobbies or gold-plated everything.

The location is honestly perfect if you actually want to experience Krakow instead of just taking tourist photos. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Main Square, but tucked away enough on Szpitalna that you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups and street performers. The staff – and I’m not just saying this – actually seem to know the city beyond the obvious attractions. The guy at reception told me about this tiny pierogi place on Grodzka that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it ended up being one of my best meals in Poland. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, good shower pressure (which, let’s be honest, can be hit or miss in these old buildings), and they’ve managed to keep some character without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum.

What really surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re smack in the middle of everything. The building’s thick walls do their job, and by 11 PM, Szpitalna settles into this peaceful rhythm that lets you actually sleep. I stayed there in June when Krakow gets pretty busy, and while you’ll hear some nightlife noise from the direction of the square, it’s more atmospheric than annoying – sort of reminds you where you are without keeping you awake. The breakfast situation is simple but good – local bread, proper coffee, and they don’t try to pretend they’re serving some international buffet spectacular. Parking’s going to be your biggest headache (like anywhere in Old Town), but there’s a decent garage about five minutes away, and honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re settled in. That 9.1 rating makes sense when you add it all up – Pollera doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. It’s the kind of place that gets Krakow right: unpretentious, genuinely welcoming, and positioned so you can dive into the city’s rhythm without fighting tourist traps every time you step outside.

A lovely building right beside the centre the old town. It had charm and a sense of history. The large family room is spacious with a high ceiling.

What could be improved: Perhaps a small cooler/ fridge in the room would be nice

This was a great hotel! Really excellent location with easy walking distance to the train station and also the city center. The single room is perfect for a solo traveler. It was comfortable and the price was very reasonable. Although it was very hot outside during the day, opening the window at night and the ceiling fan helped to keep the room a comfortable temperature.
