Royal university apartment, Wawel castle Overview
So here’s the thing about Royal University Apartment – you’re literally staying in the shadow of Wawel Castle, and I mean that almost literally. When I first walked up to this place, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from a 3-star spot in such a prime location, but honestly? It delivers way more than you’d think for the price point.
The building itself has this academic vibe that makes perfect sense once you realize it’s connected to the university. You know what struck me first? How quiet it gets in the evenings, even though you’re right in the heart of Krakow’s old town. I think it’s because the university crowd keeps things pretty civilized, and the thick walls – probably built when they actually knew how to construct buildings – keep the street noise down to almost nothing. The rooms are clean and functional, nothing fancy but everything works. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s decent storage space, which is more than I can say for some boutique places I’ve stayed at that cost twice as much.
What really sells this place though is stepping outside your door. I mean, Wawel Castle is right there – not “walking distance,” not “nearby” – it’s right there. You can literally see the castle walls from some of the windows, and if you’re into those early morning photo walks when the light hits the limestone just right, you’re already ahead of everyone staying further out who has to trek over here. The Royal Route runs practically past your front door, so you’re connected to everything that matters in the old town. Market Square is maybe a seven-minute walk, tops. And here’s something the guidebooks don’t tell you – there’s this little bakery about two blocks down toward the river that opens at 6 AM, perfect for grabbing coffee and a proper Polish pastry before the tourist crowds wake up.
The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They pointed me toward this wine bar tucked away on a side street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on which restaurants are tourist traps versus where locals actually eat. Check-in was smooth, no drama with the keys or anything like that. The 8.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just a solid, well-located place to crash while you explore one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. If you’re the type who spends most of your time out wandering anyway and just needs a clean, comfortable base with an unbeatable location, this is honestly perfect. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – but with Krakow’s old town as your backyard, why would you need either?

Reviews of Royal university apartment, Wawel castle
Barry from United States (9/10)
By far the best place we have stayed in Krakow after numerous trips spanning 20 years. Immaculately clean – and state of the art appliances. Though we didn't cook much, the utensils and cookware were extensive and very nice complete place settings – should you want to entertain. You could hear a pin drop at night; the neighborhood was so still. Adrian (host) was immediately reachable when needed, which was only to get in. Beautifully and tastefully appointed and great choice of reading materials in Polish and english – which we didn't have enough time to enjoy. It's only one flight up on a wide and easy navigable staircase (which the description didn't indicate). Around the corner from the castle and about 10 mins walk to the main square. There were only two of us friends traveling so there was plenty of room.

Great location. Quiet tree lined street. Nice outlook over the sports track. 2 minutes walk to the river, 5 minutes to Wawel castle entrance, supermarket. Nicely furnished and good kitchen. Very comfortable and nice place to stay
