Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Starowiślna 41-43, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another apartment building tucked into Kraków’s Old Town. But you know what? Sometimes the most unassuming places end up surprising you the most, and this little PI Apartments spot is exactly that kind of hidden gem.
The thing about staying right on Starowiślna is that you’re literally in the heartbeat of the old city without dealing with the circus that Main Square can become (especially during summer when the flower market gets going early morning). I mean, you can walk to Wawel Castle in about eight minutes, hit up the Jewish Quarter in Kazimierz just as quickly, but when you come back at night, it’s actually quiet enough to sleep without earplugs. The street itself has this lovely mix of locals heading to work and tourists who’ve figured out that this is where you want to be – not crammed into some hotel next to a tour bus parking lot. What really won me over was how the apartments feel like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room. The building has that solid, pre-war character – thick walls that keep things cool in summer and the kind of high ceilings that make even a modest space feel generous. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that “please wait while we upgrade our system” nonsense that seems to plague half the places I stay at these days.
The real beauty of this place though is how it puts you right in the rhythm of Kraków life. There’s a fantastic little bakery just two buildings down where locals grab their morning coffee (trust me on the sernik – best cheesecake in the district), and you’re close enough to Planty Park that morning jogs become this lovely ritual around the medieval walls. I actually found myself taking different routes back each evening just to discover new little courtyards and passages I’d missed. Sure, it’s not going to have a concierge who knows your name or turn down your bed with chocolates, but honestly? When you’re paying reasonable rates to live like a Kraków resident instead of a tourist trapped in hotel-land, those little luxuries don’t seem to matter much. The 8.8 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does exactly what it promises without any fuss or pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to actually experience a city instead of just photographing it.
Hotel in Krakow booking should be done early, especially during summer season when the city hosts internationally acclaimed cultural festivals and medieval celebrations.
