Hotel Description
So I stumbled upon the Tyzenhauz Apartments on Podwale street during what was honestly one of my best Krakow trips, and I get why this place has that 9.2 rating – it’s sort of perfectly positioned in a way that makes you feel like you’re living in the Old Town rather than just visiting it. You know that sweet spot between being right in the thick of things but not having drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM? That’s exactly what you get here.
The building itself sits on this quiet stretch of Podwale that most people walk right past on their way to the main square, which actually works in your favor. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from St. Mary’s Basilica, but the street has this residential calm that locals seem to guard pretty jealously. The apartments – and they really do feel like proper apartments, not hotel rooms – have these high ceilings and original details that remind you you’re staying in a building with some serious history. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to modernize everything without making it feel sterile. The kitchens are actually functional (I made coffee there every morning instead of hunting for cafes), and honestly, after a few days of pierogi and kielbasa, having a real fridge and stove starts to feel pretty essential.
Here’s what nobody tells you about staying in Krakow’s Old Town – parking is basically a nightmare, but the Tyzenhauz folks seem to have figured this out better than most places I’ve stayed. They’ll sort you out with options that don’t involve circling cobblestone streets for an hour. And speaking of those cobblestones, bring comfortable shoes because you’ll be doing a lot of walking on them, but from this location you can hit Wawel Castle, the Jewish Quarter in Kazimierz, and all the main square restaurants without ever needing public transport. The walls are thick enough (old building perks) that I never heard neighbors, though you’ll definitely catch the occasional horse-drawn carriage clip-clopping by – which is charming during the day, less so if you’re a super light sleeper. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood, too. Not just the tourist stuff, but like which pierogi place locals actually go to and when the farmers market happens. That kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake, and it made all the difference in feeling connected to the city rather than just passing through it.
The concierge service in Krakow can arrange exclusive castle tours, secure classical concert tickets, and organize visits to nearby Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz Memorial.

Absolutely amazing apartment. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable to stay. Perfect location, very close to Old Market. You also have a little shop, caffe and nice restaurant just beside apartment. You couldn't wish for more. We would love to stay longer than two nights.
Lixurious stay in Krakow, close to Renek – Marie from Australia – June 12, 2025 (10/10)
Everything was as described, photos accurate. Honestly amazing. What made me pick this was wanting a bit of luxury on Krakow and also get I wanted to be close to Stoccagio for wines & Charlotte for breakfast
2 bedrooms but a sofa bed in the living room too making it almost 3 bedrooms.
What could be improved: No lift… with a 6 months old and a toddler, brutal 🤣 very old building so the levels are almost double ones. Thank god my in laws came to help us 👌Outstanding location and a beautiful period property. I will certainly be coming back – Francesca from United Kingdom – May 20, 2025 (10/10)
It’s a stunning apartment. Beautifully decorated. Felt right at home as soon as we walked in.
What could be improved: Nothing. Everything was fabulousStunning start to finish – Eilisha from United Kingdom – March 26, 2025 (10/10)
It was amazing! Apartment was stunning, great area, shop attached to the building, trams close, right on the square, just everything was great. One downside I would give it is that the stairs are a real struggle with someone with asthma but I knew that before I booked it so on my head so be it haha thanks for a great holiday!
Wonderful apartment and a perfect location. Trams, restaurants and the old square are all close by. – Steven from Australia – January 10, 2025 (10/10)
A fabulous apartment all around!
Very large with plenty of space. Great views from the living room and one bedroom over the planty park including St Anne’s Church and the Mariacki Church behind it in the old square.
Two separate bedrooms with large double beds. The beds were unusually comfortable! I want one for my home.
Large bathroom, good shower, bath, toilet and two hand basins with two mirrors.
Separate toilet with another hand basin.
Great kitchen with clothes washing machine, dishwasher and Nespresso machine. The dining room extends from the kitchen to the small balcony.
The large living room is delightful – lounge chairs, expansive view, plenty of books, candles, art and a piano!
What could be improved: Nothing. It was all great.
Can’t even complain about 90 stairs up to the apartment.Great apartment in a great location – Damian from Australia – December 29, 2024 (9/10)
Great location, well maintained and renovated property. Images in the posting are true to reality.
What could be improved: As it is on the top floor, 78 steps to the front door every time you arrive. It can be a challenge with multiple travellers and heavy suitcases.Grand Apartment – Sabreena from United Kingdom – November 17, 2024 (10/10)
Huge apartment, decorated to a high level, such a beautiful and comfortable stay, had everything we could need and a little shop next door for anything else. Fantastic location. Such a short walk to the old square.
What could be improved: A second set of keys would have been useful. Please note this is up three flights of stairs with no alternative and were strenuous so may not be suitable for anyone with health conditions that may struggle with this.Wonderful – Matt from New Zealand – October 9, 2024 (9/10)
Beautiful apartment, comfortable beds, perfect location.
What could be improved: Would've preferred two sets of keys.Overall a very good stay – Sandra from Australia – April 7, 2024 (9/10)
1) cosy, warm and spacious not lacking in any amenities for guests
2) centrally located to the old town
What could be improved: 1) 3 flights of stairs to the apartment with no lift which makes it difficult with luggage. Need to mention this on their website to prepare guests
2) a little flexibility to extend beyond check out time by an hour or so would have been appreciated for a later flight
