Tyzenhauz Apartments Wawel Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Tyzenhauz Apartments Wawel? The name makes it sound way fancier than it actually is – and I mean that in the best possible way. This is one of those 3-star places that just gets it right without trying too hard. Walking up to the building, you’re literally in the shadow of Wawel Castle (hence the name, obviously), and honestly, the location alone justifies staying here. I mean, you’re basically sleeping next door to one of Poland’s most important historical sites, but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy or overpriced like you’d expect.

The apartments themselves have this lived-in quality that I really appreciated – they’re not Instagram-perfect, but they’re comfortable in that authentic European way. Think solid furniture that’s actually meant to be used, decent-sized windows that let in proper light, and kitchenettes that are small but functional if you want to grab groceries from the little market around the corner. The beds are honestly better than most hotels I’ve stayed at in this price range, and the bathrooms… well, they’re compact but the water pressure is surprisingly good. What really sold me was the quiet – you’d think being so close to major tourist attractions would mean constant noise, but the building sits on this sort of tucked-away street where you mostly just hear footsteps on cobblestones and the occasional horse-drawn carriage clopping by.

Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really capture: you’re not just near the castle, you’re in the heart of old Krakow in a way that lets you actually live there for a few days instead of just visiting. There’s this little café about two minutes away where locals actually drink their morning coffee, and you can walk to the main square in maybe eight minutes if you don’t mind the slight uphill climb. The staff – and this might be specific to when I was there – seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood. They pointed me toward this tiny restaurant that I never would have found otherwise, and gave me the kind of walking directions that included landmarks like “turn left at the building with the green door.” Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal hotel lobby nonsense. With a 9.0 rating, I was expecting maybe some hidden catches, but honestly? It just delivers what it promises without any surprises, good or bad. If you’re the kind of traveler who values being somewhere real over having a concierge, this place makes a lot of sense.

Beautiful place in a very convenient location. Great for a family with children, with sufficient and comfortable sleeping arrangements for all. The kitchen was lovely and fully equipped with everything needed to fix a quick meal after a long day visiting the various attractions the city has to offer. The view from the apartment, overlooking the river and the Wawel Palace, was picture perfect. The apartment was very good value for money for its location and quality. Krakow is definitely a city worth visiting for all the attractions and value for money.

The apartment was modern, clean, in a great location, a short walk from the old town. There is a milk bar on the bottom floor of the building which serves good value polish food all day. The view of the visiuła river and waweł castle was lovely. The neighbours were also friendly. A great base to explore kraków.
