Kazimierz Friendhouse Apartments Overview
You know what struck me first about Kazimierz Friendhouse Apartments? The name actually makes sense once you’re there. I mean, it really does feel like staying at a friend’s place – if your friend happened to live in one of Krakow’s coolest neighborhoods and had impeccable taste in vintage furniture. The building itself has that pre-war charm that’s everywhere in Kazimierz, with thick walls that keep things surprisingly quiet even when the bars on Plac Nowy are getting lively. The apartments aren’t fancy in a sterile hotel way, but they’ve got character – exposed brick here and there, wooden floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a historic building, and windows that actually open wide (honestly, such a simple thing but you miss it in those sealed hotel rooms).
What really won me over was how the place sits in the neighborhood. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from the main square of Kazimierz, close enough that you can easily wander over to Hamsa for hummus or grab pierogi at that little place on Szeroka Street – but far enough back that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The location is sort of perfect, actually. During the day, you’ve got all these galleries and cafés right at your doorstep, plus the old synagogues if you’re into history. But here’s the thing locals know – if you walk just five minutes in the other direction, you hit the Vistula riverbank where hardly any tourists go, and it’s gorgeous for morning runs or evening walks. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that hovering-at-reception awkwardness. They just gave me the keys, pointed out where to find extra towels, and mentioned which café down the street makes the best coffee (they were right, by the way).
Look, it’s not going to blow you away with luxury – this is a solid 3-star place that knows exactly what it is. The WiFi works, the showers have decent water pressure, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it for a week. What makes it special is that authentic Kazimierz vibe without the tourist markup you get closer to the main attractions. I stayed there in late spring when the weather was perfect for keeping the windows open, and you could hear the city waking up – church bells, tram bells, the guy selling flowers setting up his stand. It felt like being part of the neighborhood instead of just passing through it. Plus, with an 8.6 rating, I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. If you want to experience Krakow like someone who actually lives here, rather than just checking off the must-see spots, this is your place.
Exploring Krakow offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Poland’s medieval heart, from its magnificent Wawel Castle to its bustling Market Square and timeless cultural traditions.
