Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Royal, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes these mid-range spots end up surprising you in all the right ways, and that’s exactly what happened here.

The thing about the Royal is that it just… works. I mean, it’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I actually really appreciate. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feel – not fancy, but clean and welcoming in a way that makes you feel like you can actually relax instead of worrying about tracking mud on some pristine marble floor. The staff genuinely seemed to care about helping out, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dealing with the usual travel headaches. Check-in was smooth (I got there around 3 PM and my room was ready), and the front desk guy actually gave me some solid local recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps.

The rooms are what you’d expect for the price point, but they’re well-maintained and thoughtfully laid out. My bed was comfortable enough that I actually slept well – and if you travel as much as I do, you know that’s not always a given. The bathroom was compact but functional, with decent water pressure (thank god). One thing I noticed is how quiet it gets at night, which was a pleasant surprise. I was worried about street noise, but the windows do a good job of blocking most of it out. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout my stay too, which is crucial when you’re trying to get work done or just want to stream something after a long day of sightseeing. I did notice the air conditioning unit made a bit of noise when it kicked on, but nothing that would keep you awake if you’re not a super light sleeper.

What really sets this place apart though is the value – and I don’t just mean the price, though that 8.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s more about how they’ve figured out what actually matters to travelers and focused on getting those things right. The location puts you within walking distance of some genuinely good local spots (not just the chain restaurants), parking was easier than I expected, and there’s something to be said for a place that doesn’t nickel-and-dime you for every little thing. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. It’s the kind of place where you can focus on enjoying your trip instead of dealing with hotel drama, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  Very large apartment in very central location. Comfortable and unusual, with antique furniture, parquet floors, marble bathroom and generally luxury fittings. Fast wi-fi. Dishwasher and washing machine. Comfy beds. A few drawbacks, but nothing we couldn't live with, given the plus points.
